ByteDance has launched Doubao 2.0, the latest version of its flagship artificial intelligence application, marking a clear push into what the company describes as the “agent era.”
Released on February 15, Doubao 2.0 includes three general-purpose models designed to handle multi-step reasoning and real-world task execution. Unlike traditional chatbots that primarily respond to prompts, these systems are structured to complete extended workflows with minimal user intervention.

The Pro version, according to ByteDance, delivers performance on par with leading Western models such as GPT-5.2 and Gemini 3 Pro. The company also emphasised a reduction in usage costs, positioning affordability as a competitive lever for businesses deploying AI at scale.
The launch comes as competition intensifies in both domestic and global markets. In China, rivals including Alibaba have accelerated their own model development efforts. Globally, ByteDance is seeking to establish itself as more than a consumer-facing AI provider, expanding into enterprise-grade automation tools.
Doubao 2.0 signals ByteDance’s intent to compete not just in conversational AI, but in autonomous task execution—an area increasingly viewed as the next phase of AI deployment.
