Google now allows follow-up questions in Search, merging its AI Overview and AI Mode for a more conversational experience.
Google has started testing a new integration combining its AI Overview and AI Mode features. In a demonstration video, the company’s product lead asked Google Search for packing advice for a family trip and also used follow-up questions to upgrade suggestions, showing how users can now continue a discussion without starting over.
The update aims to make hunt feel more natural and interactive, allowing for deeper, context-aware responses rather than just a static list of links.
This change marks a shift from traditional “ search-and-click ” to “ ask- and-chat.” It could make information access briskly and less effortful, especially for complex or multi-step queries. At the same time, it raises questions about how users engage with sources they may rely more on AI-generated responses than on original web pages.
Before in 2025, Google launched AI Mode( after debuting AI Overviews), enabling more advanced reasoning, multimodal responses( text, images, etc.) and follow-up questions.
The current test brings those two features closer together, offering a seamless experience on mobile devices.
