Musk Says X May Pay Creators More Than YouTube

Elon Musk has said that social media platform X could increase payments to content creators and may eventually offer payouts higher than those available on YouTube.

His comments came in response to creator feedback on the platform regarding earnings from X’s revenue-sharing programme.

Musk acknowledged that creators on X have been underpaid and said the company is working on improving compensation while ensuring systems are not misused.

X currently runs an ad-revenue sharing model for verified users, with payments linked to engagement levels. The platform has also introduced subscriptions and premium features to expand income opportunities for creators.

X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, confirmed that changes are being evaluated to improve creator earnings and reduce fraudulent activity on the platform.

Musk’s remarks indicate that X intends to strengthen its position in the creator economy by offering more competitive monetisation options.

X’s plan to review creator payouts reflects ongoing pressure on digital platforms to provide more consistent and transparent compensation models.

Creator earnings play a key role in shaping where content is published. Any change in payout structures could influence platform preferences among creators and affect advertising revenue distribution across social media networks.

Social platforms are increasingly competing for original content as video and subscription-based revenue models expand. X’s comments come as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok continue to refine their own creator payment programmes.
